Since establishment of LJNH Govt. Girls Degree College Kotla Khurd Una (HP) in year 2004, The History Department is a vibrant and integral part of this academic institution, dedicated to the exploration, analysis, and understanding of the past. department provides students with the opportunity to delve into various historical periods, events, and themes, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deeper appreciation for the complexities of human experience. History is the study of past, encompassing ever thing from the evolution of human societies to political events, cultural changes, technological advancements and more. It involves analysing primary sources, secondary literature, and various interpretations to understand how and why events unfolded. It is a multidisciplinary field that incorporates elements of anthropology, sociology, economics, politics and geography

Subject Specific Outcomes:

We have some very important as well as interesting Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) for B.A.II & III year students like Historical Tourism, Understanding Heritage, An introduction to Archaeology, Crafts, and Artisans: Living Traditions, Museums and Archives, Indian History and Culture, Indian Art etc.From all mentioned courses students will recognize the importance of historical places of India and describe the importance of the travel and tourism industry. Students will learn the different facets of Heritage and their significance. They will understand about the legal and institutional frameworks for historic/heritage protection in India as the challenges facing it. They will gather knowledge of about the all historical places/ Heritage through project and visit to Historical sites, Museum and Archives. Students will learn how to maintain documentary, visual and material remains of the past either in house or institutions. They can understand towards the important and significance of the Museum and Archives to build the history of India. Thus educational tour to the National Archives and National Museum is an integral part of the history students. In Archaeology section, students will gather information how to write historiography and research methodology in history. They will learn how to identify archaeological sites and explorations of ancient history. They will also learn about the documentation, codification, classification, analyses of findings through field work. Students will gather knowledge about the Indian Art from ancient to contemporary times, in order to understand and appreciate its diversity and its aesthetic richness. As well as student of history will equip with the abilities to understand Art as a medium of cultural expression.
By reading Indian History & Culture, student will learn about the environment, culture, tradition, practices of Indian people since from the ages. They will acquire knowledge towards the urbanization and changing socio-cultural scenario of India. As well as they can gather knowledge about the cultural heritage, cultural forms and cultural expressions performing arts, fairs and festivals.
Program Specific Outcomes:
Being a subject of social science, history has own value in society and human life. It helps the students to develop their ethnical and social values. They could gather knowledge about the heritage and tradition of their own country and the others. There is a huge potentiality in future of a history student. Various options are opened to history students to choose their career. First of all, history is a subject from primary education level to higher study, so they can engage themselves in teaching profession in primary, secondary, post secondary education up to university level. It is also helpful for those who are dreaming and preparing for UPSSC and SSC. A history student may choose his or her career in journalism or any other editorial board. They may get job in museum, archives and libraries too. Besides those, in the field of research and archaeology they may proceed.
